GMC / CHEVROLET DURAMAX Diesel

GM introduced the 6.6 liter Duramax in 2001, offering a modernized engine capable of outperforming its competitors. The new and improved turbocharged engine was crowned as the LB7. Following suite was the LLY 2004.5 – 2006, LBZ 2006.5 – 2007, LMM 2007.5 – 2010, LML 2011 – 2016, and the L5P 2017 – 2023. From its launch, the Duramax has always been coupled with an Allison transmission which proved to be an everlasting duo. The launch of the LB7 proved to GM it was such an engineering marvel they decided to further develop the platform two decades later.

PDP Recommends AirDog

Although the platform matured, it took GM over 15 years before they utilized a factory lift pump. Without one, the factory fuel system was subject to not only compressing fuel to the injectors, but also suctioning fuel from the tank– causing the factory pump to work double duty. From 2001 to 2010 this was not a huge concern since the CP3’s proved reliable. Subsequently, the 2011 – 2016 LML platform switched from the reliable CP3 to a havoc wreaking CP4. This pump quickly proved it was a flop. The only two options to aid in it exploding and contaminating the fuel system is to install an Airdog lift pump, which is a temporary band aid, or swapping it for a LBZ CP3 conversion from Fleece.

PDP Duramax Upgrades

Afterall, we built our expertise in diesels beginning with a 2006.5 LBZ Duramax in 2012. We installed and tested every popular mod for common diesel enthusiasts. We found installing an Airdog lift pump, EFI Live DSP5 tuning, and a Transgo JR kit would make the most incredible daily driver. It dominated all over platforms at the time as far as power and reliability were concerned. We shared this easy recipe to the public for a 13 second quarter mile diesel truck and it paved the future for our passion for the diesel community.
